I went to the sauna today.
“So what” you ask?
Well I’ve never been in the sauna before.
For the last several years, I’ve been in the gym 4-5 times per week and I’m at the spa every Friday. So I’ve walked past, leaned against, looked at a sauna at least a thousand times….but I’d never gone in there….
And I have no idea why.
The sauna has always been ‘that the scary room’ for me. Scary meaning “unknown”. I never knew anything about the sauna so I never went in there…
Until I was talking to my massage therapist and she recommended that I go in the sauna a couple of times per week. I said…oh no…that’ scary room? You want me to go in there?
Well, at her recommendation, I went – and absolutely loved it. It was one of the best experiences I’ve had. Of course the hot room was miserable, but I felt GREAT afterwards.
And I was so bummed that I’ve had access to and walked right past the sauna for so many years…just because of a silly unfounded fear). And the funny thing is that if you would have ASKED me if I were afraid to go in there…I would have said no. but on some level, I guess I was…
So over coming this silly fear, just turned me on to a great experience that I’ll enjoy for the rest of my life.
What are your ‘scary’ rooms? What things in life have you just not done because you didn’t know about it (or was afraid to do)?
- Learning a new language?
- Taking some classes at the college?
- Dating that girl who works in the pharmacy?
- Getting a new job?
One of my mentors, Mark Yarnell told me…the best way to overcome your fears is to just do them.
Think about the ‘scary’ things you’ve been wanting to do…and just do them!

I just love this line “the best way to overcome your fears is to just do them.” It’s so true!!! I would definitely love to hear more and read more from you.
