Clarifying Your Goals – Vague Ideas Won’t Produce Results

  • Minutes Read

Do you have goals? Nearly everyone says that they do. However, when you ask people what their goals are, you usually get only general statements about wanting a better future, not a list of clear goals.

Imagine that you’re an archer, and your goals are the target. What hope do you have of hitting a fuzzy target or a target that is “out there somewhere”? Not much. You have to have a very specific target to aim at; otherwise, no matter how good your technique is, you have no hope of hitting the bulls-eye. The first step in reaching a goal is having a clear image of what you want to achieve.

Some people have fairly clear goals, but only for a time. They had one goal yesterday, but a different goal today – and you can bet they will have a new one tomorrow. Even if you have a clear picture of what you want, you can’t hit a target that keeps moving. Decide on a specific goal, and then keep that image fixed in your mind. Develop a steady aim.

Don’t let a lack of immediate results discourage you. Keep refining your aim, and you’ll find yourself getting closer to your goal. You may not score with your first arrow; just keep concentrating on that target until you finally hit it. Nothing will ever be accomplished by giving up when obstacles are encountered. If you can learn from your mistakes, you’ll turn those obstacles into opportunities for growth.

Keep at it, and you will see progress. Use this improvement to assure yourself that, in time, you’ll get to where you want to be. Steps in the right direction, no matter how small they may sometimes seem, will eventually bring you to your destination. Always maintain a positive attitude. Believe that you can accomplish your ultimate goal. Better yet, know that you will accomplish it!
Make note of your improvement to stay encouraged, but remain focused on the ultimate goal – to hit the bulls-eye.

One of the most famous archers in the world says that though he spends time refining his technique, when he shoots in competition he focuses only on the end result. He doesn’t think about the position of his hand or the bow, he just imagines the arrow already being in the center of that small gold circle. Everything else takes care of itself. Using clear visualization, he has made shots that seem humanly impossible.

Finally, have fun on your journey. Enjoy the many adventures you will have along the way. Delight in seeing your progress. Positive thoughts will attract more positive thoughts – which will turn into positive results. You will arrive at your destination, but you don’t have to wait until you achieve your goals to have a joyful life.

  1. I so much agree with you. Our goals need to be very, very specific. We can’t just manifest we want a car. We have to specify its build, its specifications, its make. So that the Energy can bring that to us as how we want it. Same goes for all other things. If you know what you’re aiming at, you will hit it.
